Dr. Steve Scibelli, a Southern California native, received his undergraduate degree at University of California- Davis in 1994. He then completed a Masters Degree in Avian Science in 1996. Venturing out of state, Dr. S graduated with both a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and his MBA from Colorado State University in 2000. After spending several years in Colorado, and then on the east coast practicing emergency medicine, he returned to California. Pacific Coast Veterinary Hospital was founded in 2007.

When he is not in the office, Dr. S enjoys fishing, hiking, and spending time at the beach. Along with his family, he is the owner of THREE dogs! “Sugar” (Golden Retriever rescue), “Riffle” (inherited crazy lab puppy), and “Jenny P”, (rescue pug :)


 Sarah Gertmenian, DVM

Dr. Gertmenian, a California native, received an undergraduate degree at University of California Davis. She then spent 2 years volunteering in the Peace Corps teaching mathmatics! In 2002, she graduated from University of Wisconsin Madison with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Dr. Gertmenian then returned to California to complete a 1 year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital. She has a strong interest in soft tissue surgery and internal medicine.

When not in the office, Dr. G enjoys scuba diving, playing soccer, and dog walks on the beach with her wonderful black Labrador, “Daisy”.


Dr. Renee McCarthy

Dr. McCarthy knew from a young age that she  wanted to be a veterinarian. She is a Southern California native, growing up near Modjeska Canyon on the property where her parents and her brother and his family still live.

After graduating from Trabuco Hills High School, she went on to receive her BS in Animal Science at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1995. She then went on to receive her DVM from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1999.

Dr. McCarthy has practiced almost exclusively in Orange County after receiving her DVM. She did spend 3 1/2 years working at a busy 12 doctor hospital while living in Hawaii, on Oahu. She loved her time in Hawaii, especially the long lasting friendships she made along the way, but home is south Orange County.

During her free time, she loves to walk the local trails, travel, and volunteer for her local animal shelter and Southpaw dog rescue, which are both near and dear to her heart.

She currently resides in Mission Viejo with her husband David and her group of rescue Chihuahua mixes and cats.

Dr. McCarthy looks forward to treating your beloved pets and building a long-lasting partnership in your pets’ veterinary care!


Dr. John Phillips

Dr. John Phillips grew up in Orange County and attended Santa Margarita Catholic High School.  He then ventured out to Los Angeles County and received his Bachelor of Science in Biology through UCLA, and went on to receive his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine through Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona.

During his free time, he enjoys the beach, golfing and spending time with his family.
