PCVH Neurology & Surgery

SPECIALIST INFORMATION

If your pet’s condition requires the attention of a specialist, the doctors at Pacific Coast Veterinary
Hospital can facilitate referral. We are currently able to offer in-house referrals for both
orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, and neurology/neurosurgery.
These specialists are
available for consultations in our office and can collaborate with Dr. Scibelli or Dr. Gertmenian about
your pet’s problem, allowing a team approach. Second opinions with these specialists are also available.
Please be sure to bring a complete medical history for all consultations (prior medical records, labwork,
radiographs, and medications)

Our goal is to utilize the expertise of a specialist within the confines of our facility, resulting in
seamless communication with your regular veterinarian, a unified diagnostic and treatment
approach, and improved overall care for your pet.
Familiar staff, and continuity of care combined
with a specialist’s expertise affords our patients and families an environment focused on individual care
and client education.

Board certitified veterinary surgeons are designated as Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary
Surgeons (Diplomate ACVS) and board certified veterinary neurologists are designated as Diplomates of
the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Diplomate ACVIM (Neurology)). These are
veterinarians who have, after veterinary school, completed 3 to 4 year residencies, and then passed an
exam to become certified in their specialty.

In some cases, either due to concurrent medical problems, or financial constraints, a pet is not able to have
extensive diagnostic tests performed (such as myelogram, MRI, CSF tap, etc..) to determine the cause of
the problem. In these patients, the specialist will work with you and your regular veterinarian to try to
treat the symptoms with medications. Our goal in these patients is to manage chronic pain effectively,
and improve daily function and mobility. Improving your pet's quality of life is ALWAYS our ultimate goal.
